What does a month-by-month wedding flower timeline look like?

The Short Answer

Book your florist 9 to 12 months out, refine the design 4 to 6 months out, confirm details 2 to 3 months out, and finalize counts and pay the balance 1 to 2 weeks before. Flowers are ordered the week of the wedding for peak freshness.

Nine to twelve months out

This is the booking and vision stage. Confirm your venue and date, gather inspiration images, and have your first consultation. You will discuss overall style, colors, and a rough budget, then pay a deposit to reserve the date. You do not need every detail decided yet; this stage is about securing your florist and agreeing on a direction. Bringing a few photos and your budget range makes this first conversation productive and gives your designer a clear starting point.

Four to six months out

Now the design takes shape. You will refine the flower palette, decide on personal pieces, and map out ceremony and reception decor. This is a good time to coordinate with your other vendors, since the design should complement your linens, venue, and overall aesthetic. Any rentals like stands or arches are penciled in. Nothing is fully locked, but the plan becomes detailed enough that your florist can build a working proposal and you can see the whole picture coming together.

Two to three months and the final stretch

At two to three months, you review the proposal, adjust piece counts, and confirm delivery and setup logistics. Then, one to two weeks before the wedding, you finalize guest and table counts, lock the design, and pay the balance. Your florist orders flowers the week of the event so they arrive at peak freshness. The final days are for the florist to build; your job by then is simply to relax. Our Bentley Florist team keeps couples on track with reminders at each of these milestones.
